Children must be properly restrained in an approved child seat or booster that matches their age, weight, and height. This protection stays in place until they reach the size or age where a regular seat belt can safely fit them. Using the right restraint every time ensures the device is holding them correctly and providing the intended protection. Restraints aren’t optional, and infants aren’t the only ones who need them—the rule covers children of all sizes who haven’t yet reached the required height/age for using a seat belt alone.
